Cutting edge contemporary classical music in the bmic 2007 concert series

about

Bmic's flagship live events series returns with a programme showcasing the rich mix that is new music in the UK today. Leading ensembles and soloists join forces for more than 50 premières, with work by the iconic figures of contemporary music rubbing shoulders with the best up-and-coming talent.

Performing groups making a welcome return include the Smith Quartet, with a programme featuring music written for this unique ensemble, and the outstanding young Norwegian group, asamisimasa. Contrasting works by three leading Andriessen pupils, including a mini-portrait of Sam Hayden, feature in an evening from the virtuoso Edwardes/ Kanno/ La Berge trio, whilst the double-bill of Noszferatu and decibel highlights dynamic currents from today’s scene in Britain and Ireland. Some of the most inventive commissioning in the UK currently comes from the amateur ensemble network CoMA, whose concert of new work will be eagerly awaited following the success of their debut Cutting Edge event last year

Memorable performances by a new wave of young keyboard virtuosi have been a feature of recent Cutting Edge series, and 2007 is no exception with performances from three pianists whose work pushes at the boundaries of the medium; Mary Dullea, Sarah Nicolls and Jonathan Powell. Other soloists to feature include sopranos Claire Booth and Sarah Leonard, pianist Stephen Gutman, percussionist Joby Burgess and making a first appearance at the Cutting Edge, flautist Richard Craig.

Bmic turns 40 in November, and to mark the occasion we’re holding an opening night jubilee concert featuring some of the best of Bmic, past and present. So, join us for a celebration of 40 years of the Bmic this autumn, there will be something new for you every Thursday!
